At our Dry Eye Clinic an examination of the anterior eye surface is carried out using specialist dyes , equipment and biomicroscopy. We assess and determine the best treatment suitable for your eyes giving you a tailor-made prescription to suit your needs and comfort.

This dedicated Dry Eye Clinic not only proposes a treatment plan for you, the patient, but allows you to best manage your “condition”.

Being one of only a handful of dedicated clinics in Ireland with specialist training in using the latest in laser technology  and Light Modulation therapy we are now able to offer treatment for  this  often debilitating condition.

Intense Pulsed Light treatment for dry eye utilises pulses of light to liquify and release hardened oils that have clogged Meibomian glands in the  . IPL also affects vascularization and inflammation of the eyelids, reducing eyelid redness and stimulating healthy gland function.

Following on from the heat mask, Meibum, the outer oily layer in the tears, is manually expressed from the glands in order to restore normal oil flow of the tear film.

Many people may notice a slight improvement in their dry eye symptoms after the first couple of treatments, but the usual recommendation is a series of four IPL treatments, performed over the course of a couple of months. This initial treatment bundle is designed to help with long-term success in treating both chronic dry eye disease and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), the root cause of most dry eye disease.

After a 6 month single maintenance treatment, a single annual maintenance treatment is required, depending on the severity of the dry eye condition.

BlephEx. Lid and lash cleaning (Microblepharo Exfoliation) is performed using a handheld device with a high speed / torque rotating PVA sponge. This device mechanically debrides the lid margins to remove debris and cylindrical dandruff. By removing the exotoxins and harmful bacteria, chronic and irritating symptoms associated with Blepharitis are eliminated. Restoring a healthy biofilm on the lid / lash margin not only keeps red and inflamed lids at bay but also subsequent dry eye.
